Standing Strong When Life Shakes Us
Shaking and sweating are pretty common themes around here-- but they took on a whole different meaning with the large earthquake that hit Taiwan this past week! My deepest thanks to those abroad who reached out to send well wishes and inquire about the safety of all of us on the island.
Given the intensity of the quake, it's rather amazing that the destruction and loss of life were not even more catastrophic--truly a testament to the preparedness, resilience, and unity of the people in Taiwan.I write a lot about the fun and joyful aspects of dancing together. But when life's struggles shake us to the core, we may discover even more benefits come from moving our bodies in Zumba class!
Resilience 💪
Exercise is stress to the body. Choosing to purposefully stress the body in controlled ways lets our brains know that we can successfully do hard things and overcome difficult obstacles in life as well.
Stability + Strength ⚖️
Zumba is a practice of balance, coordination, and endurance. In class we build a strong foundation for our bodies which can be carried to other aspects of our lives .
Unity 🤝
In Zumba class we often move as one, inspired by the instructor or encouraged to not give up by the energy of the crowd. Support and community unifies us and can get us through tough times ( whether it be more squats or through the pandemic!).
In life we can't avoid experiencing tremors of uncertainty and difficulty. In addition to the joy dancing together brings, we gain more resilience, strength, and support when we continually show up on the dance floor.
