The Light of Resilience Shines Through Dark Seasons

Finding the Resilience and Habits that Help You Weather Life's Storms

Here in Taiwan, it feels like the typhoon winds have finally blown in the cooler autumn weather. You might even be breaking out a long sleeve shirt to embrace this season of change!
This final week of October gives us a chance to celebrate Halloween (don't forget to join us this Saturday for our Halloween party!) and also to acknowledge that October is Breast Cancer Awareness month.
This year the World Health Organization has the beautiful theme "Every story is unique, every journey matters." It makes me want to pause and recognize how many people in our own community may have personally experienced breast cancer or have loved ones who have walked that journey in their own individual way.
This past year I had the chance to work closely with women who have experienced breast cancer as a part of a health and wellness coaching internship I completed with Zero Breast Cancer's Resilient Me Coaching Program.
Over the course of about six months, I had the immense privilege of working with breast cancer survivors as they worked to build sustainable daily habits to support their recovery and lower their risk of recurrence.
Besides developing my own health and wellness coaching skills, I learned so much about how people navigate challenging seasons of their lives. Through the darkest of times and in the aftermath of storms, a powerful light of resilience (as the program was so aptly named) remained.
Health and wellness coaching fits in seamlessly with the WHO’s theme of individuality because it supports each person discovering what works along his or her own journey, rather than being prescriptive. How each person combats the stress of change and stokes their own fire of resilience is as unique as each individual, whether it may be joyful movement, good sleep, time with friends, or cuddles from a loving pet.
Whatever difficulties you are facing in life right now, what tools, support, habits, and people help you overcome challenges and make it through to another season of change?

And to dance with us for a Halloween party to end out the month, join us this Saturday, October 31! Come wear a costume or just throw on something black or orange, and let’s dance!
Keep moving!
xx,
Katie
