Celebrating My (Not So) Small Win With You!

Passing THe National Board of Health and Wellness Coaching Exam

Before we wrap up September and head into a Fabulous Fall and our new theme of Seasons of Change, I need to stop and take some of my own advice to celebrate a win!
Truthfully, this win has been a while in the making and feels pretty big. I officially passed the National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching exam!
For the past two years, I have been plugging away at this next step in my career. Receiving my high marks on the exam feels like a beautiful recognition of all the hard work and challenging moments that come with stepping out of your comfort zone when you start a new challenge. For me, it was also navigating opposite time zones and nerves feeling like a beginner!
If you have been a reader for a while, you will know that several years ago a lot of what I share here slightly shifted. It moved from simply sharing class updates and personal stories to a deeper focus on building healthy habits and sharing tools for a greater sense of wellbeing.
This newsletter started because I wanted to be able to connect with you using words beyond what was communicated on the dance floor. Over time, I felt like I wanted to find a deeper way of supporting students and clients in achieving their own personal vision of what it means to thrive in life. And by completing a Health and Wellness Coach Certification Program at Emory Continuing Education, doing a six month internship with Resilient Me working with women who have experienced breast cancer in Northern California, and now having passed the 4 ½ hour NBHWC exam 😮💨, I'm one step closer!
So what is a health and wellness coach anyway? Is it being a fitness trainer, writing nutrition plans, or acting like a counselor? No! A health and wellness coach helps a client clarify what living well uniquely looks like to them, uses conversation and inquiry to draw out personal strengths and values, and supports the client as an accountability partner in taking actual concrete action steps that move the needle of change forward in a way that is sustainable for the long term.
In practical terms, this might look like supporting a stressed office worker in finally getting into a movement routine that works within a busy schedule or helping a client implement dietary changes that their doctor has recommended.
I am so thrilled about this leveling up in my skillset and look forward to sharing more information, tools and ways that you'll be able to work together with me in the future. So, stay tuned!
What is a recent win, big or small, that you need to pause and celebrate today?
Come celebrate with me on the dance floor or in your living room this week! Check out the schedule (note I’ll be traveling for a week in October!) to join an online class or move with us in person here in Taipei.
Keep moving!
xx,
Katie
