Lessons From Home

Carrying What Matters Into the Next Season of Change

Hello again from Taipei! I am back this week after a super quick but extremely lovely trip to the US.
In just one week, I was able to really experience the spirit of our monthly theme of Fabulous Fall: Embracing Seasons of Change. There were obvious signs of transition all around me, like the reds, oranges, and yellows of the falling leaves. I could not get enough of the crisp autumn morning air during jetlagged sunrise morning walks that felt as if I was moving right through this moment of magical transformation.
In many ways, I think the timing of this trip came right amidst this major moment in life for me. There are so many beautiful memories of my childhood that are preserved in my childhood home, which I return to each time. My senses transport me through time with each familiar chime of the grandfather clock or shuffle of someone making their way down the staircase. There is a little ache that so much time has passed since I last lived there in high school, and also this deep appreciation that my family still calls this place home.
Coming to my childhood home this one last time before I step into the role of parent felt extra significant. My parents truly spoiled me with all the love, the conversations, and the meals! Maybe more than any other trip home, I was able to appreciate just how blessed I have been because of the family I was born into.
I listened intently to my mom's own birthing stories and bits of parental wisdom from my dad, and noticed each hilarious inside joke or story shared with my sisters as if it contained secret codes to how to build my own family.
In the midst of some of the excitement and nerves of becoming a first time parent, I felt moments of calming reassurance that I can step into this next season of life with some of the tools I have been given and collected through my life back in the US, and of course also through my life here in Taipei.
So this week, I am thinking about how embracing change does not mean just learning to let go of the past, but rather finding what you treasure most and what lessons can be carried forward into the next season of life.
If you are in a season of change in your life, whether you are becoming an empty nester, switching careers, or committing to a new health and wellness journey, what self-knowledge, lessons, or even people will help you to more calmly and bravely embrace your next season of life?
Wishing you a beautiful fall! Don't forget to come and dance with us this season before I will be away for my wedding celebration holiday and my upcoming maternity leave. Check out the schedule below to join an online class or move with us in person here in Taipei.
Keep moving!
xx,
Katie
