Finding Vacation Vibes Without Traveling Far

Fresh views, fresh foods, and a fresh set of eyes to see the world.

I think a lot of the magic of vacation time boils down to those things! That break from the ordinary and a dose of novelty infuses me with this amazing feeling of  “Oh, THIS  is what life is really about!” It’s not just floating through the days on autopilot, but really noticing and taking part in what is all around me.

As we wrap up our month of Vacation Vibes from my staycation spot right here at home in Taipei, I am searching for ways of putting my own "tourist twist" on my summer.

Here is how I have been shaking things up:

Fresh Views: I discovered a new route to work down an alley I had never been down before. Beautiful flowers line the road, and the bonus is that it actually cuts a few minutes off my ride to one of my classes! Exploring always gives me new opportunities for adventure and appreciation in my own backyard!

Fresh Foods: This past month I finally gave a go to a new vegan restaurant I had been eyeing but was hesitant to try. I ended up liking the spot Sunami so much I went back again that exact same week! 😅 Last weekend I also tried a friend's new dessert stall Countdown66 which featured cilantro desserts. It was a combination I really wasn't sure about, but I ended up absolutely loving! Walking away from holiday having discovered new flavors that expand my palate is something I always love returning home with!

A Fresh Set of Eyes: Last week I had a different perspective in a class when I got to be a student again. For Space Cycle's 11th Anniversary Party, I took turns leading and then stepping back to learn in a joint class with Teacher Jazzmine. Not only did I pick up new moves and get lost in challenging my brain in a different way, but I also got to appreciate bonding with a new instructor. I came out of class super sweaty and with a deeper appreciation for what my students experience.

Sights, flavors, experiences, and more –there are really so many ways to put a tourist twist on your routine without having to travel very far!

What are the things that might bring you out of a monotonous daily daze and put a tourist twist on your week?

Get adventurous and try something new to shake up your summer!

Keep moving!

xx,

Katie
