Super moms: The Brilliant Balancers!

Who are masters of multitasking? Creative coordinators? Adept jugglers and beautiful balancers?



Moms, I’m looking at you!



And with Mother’s Day around the corner, our community celebrates you this week!Speaking of balance, let's talk about physical balance. It's something we often overlook in our quest for wellness, but it's crucial for our health, especially as we age.



Women, in particular, have a higher risk of falls and fractures as we age, making balance training extremely important. Additionally, it’s an essential skill in being able to maintain our independence and quality of life throughout our years.



Whether you are blessed to have your Mom nearby, or want to help yourself or another woman work on her balance skills, check out some of these simple suggestions below!



  • Practice standing on one leg: Hold the position for increasing periods, and try it with your eyes closed for an extra challenge.



  • Try heel-to-toe walking: Walk in a straight line, placing the heel of one foot directly in front of the toes of the other.



  • Sit-to-stand exercises: Strengthen your core and lower body muscles by practicing standing up from a seated position in a sturdy chair. Gradually increase repetitions or refrain from using your hands to push yourself up for a challenge.



  • Try two of my own mother’s favorite online classes, Balance Boost #1 and #2: Short ten-minute ballet-inspired balance workouts set to music!



  • Join the fun with our A-May-zing Bingo challenge! One of the squares is to practice your balance by brushing your teeth on one foot. It might seem silly, but it's a great way to incorporate a balance exercise into your daily routine!
