Finding More Ease and JOy in Our Health Habits

"It's gonna be... May!"
Sorry, but I cannot resist the corny, overused reference to the NSYNC lyrics that pop up at the end of April each year!
I feel like so much territory was covered in April. That thawing out after winter really started, and joy warmed me through and through from movement, connection, and commitment to my habits. Leveraging the spring weather and renewed energy gave a palpable, contagious lightness and positivity that I felt blossoming all month long.
As I take a moment to look back and gather my lessons from the past few weeks, the real takeaway from this month felt like there was flow rather than forcing when it came to caring for myself.
I am not saying it was random and without planning. But I actively set myself up for things to be more easeful when possible (something which really saved me during a super eventful month!).
The groundwork that made me feel the most supported, like my rest and nutrition, were scheduled habits that kept me feeling that things flowed rather than felt rushed, forced, and demanding.
For instance, I started automatically setting my phone to "do not disturb" for the time at night I wanted to stretch or just lie with my feet up uninterrupted.
I also made sure to stock the fridge with options that I knew would truly satisfy me and also allow me to actually feel excited about what I was eating.
Just the other day, I came across bright red radishes that are rare to find in Taipei. Buying them on the spot injected my day with color and variety, giving me the chance to spontaneously experiment in the kitchen. When it came time to prepare a meal, I opened the fridge and realized I had set myself up for playful fun and flow rather than feeling torn between choices that I might feel unsatisfied with later.
This month I came to feel like true wellness to me is about reframing my habits as not a fight to restrict or "be good," but as a chance to remove areas of friction or things that block the flow of my joy and energy. Both making small intentional decisions and noticing impromptu opportunities for better supporting myself created a spring full of joy and wellbeing.
In what ways can you set yourself up for more joy and wellness to flow to you this week and into the new month ahead?
Come join me on the dance floor this week to keep the energy flowing!
Keep moving!
xx,
Katie
