Defining Your Summer Wellness Now

I had to do a double take when I looked at the calendar this week. Am I seriously wrapping up some of my Zumba classes for this school year already?

Long gone are the childhood days of feeling like summer will never ever come or that sitting through even one single class inched by painfully slowly.

Ok, scratch that. Just about every teacher friend I have is currently feeling like this final stretch requires a heavy dose of thoughts and prayers to get them until the final kid will have filed out of the classroom for vacation!

But I digress. That sticky, sweaty summer heat is on its way no matter what your thoughts are on it!

And as those layers come off, a big topic of conversation in the fitness industry is focused entirely around that "summer body." It becomes all about what it should look like, what it should wear, and this quest for easy, breezy, effortless fun while simultaneously navigating sweat pouring down your face, irregular routines, and the very real appeal of  ice cream after every meal.

It is completely okay to admit that summer can carry its own special brand of stress!

With the timer running down on the final school bell of the year, this is a great time to think about what will keep you thriving through this next season instead of wilting under the heat.

As we continue our month of AMAYzing Moves, instead of stressing about what we should look or feel like this summer, what about preparing for the season by defining our own unique idea of wellness?

It is not about fitting into a specific swimsuit or snapping the perfect five-star shot of our holiday without a hair out of place (which is totally impossible in the Taipei heat anyway!). It is about what your own definition of feeling well truly means.

We tend to feel our best not just when we look a certain way, but when we take care of and nurture ourselves well.

What will keep the momentum you built during the school year going? Maybe coming to class during the year helped your body and mind, yet you will be traveling soon. What aspects of class were most helpful to you this past year? Was it the stress-relief, the movement, or simply the dedicated "you time"?

Once we know what made the biggest difference to us, we can find creative ways to plan for it. Whether that means taking one of my Zumba  online classes from anywhere you travel to, or planning for just five minutes of alone time to move around instead of scrolling on your phone to keep you grounded.

Taking some time now before the summer hits is actually one of the best ways we can prepare for it. Let’s get “bikini-body ready” strong, sane, and summer-ready!

Either way, I will be around all through this next season to keep you moving!

Keep moving!

xx,

Katie
