Loving where we are now to get to where we want to go!

š¤āYou may say Iām a dreamerā¦āš¤šµ Ok, I think so too!š
When it comes to taking on new projects or thinking up creative endeavors, I can get super into it, getting wrapped up in grand plans and lofty aspirations pretty quickly.Ā That part of me probably hasnāt changed much since I was a kid.
I can still vividly recall this one time when I was little and became absolutely infatuated with the idea that I could have an epic treehouse in my backyard.Ā
I proposed the entire idea to my dad. There was a big tree in our backyard, we had leftover wood from redoing our basement, and I was convinced it was going to be my new clubhouse just like in some 90s kids movie (my neighborhood friends were in full agreement)!
But when reality hit that the tree couldnāt possibly hold a treehouse, I was absolutely crushed,Ā running to cry and sulk in my bedroom rather than delivering the news to my friends waiting outside.
Ā
Like happened a lot of times, it seemed if my ideas didnāt get put into action immediately, I lost all hope and steam. The dreaming wasnāt an issue, but the reality of where I currently wasĀ derailed me.
When I think about how I viewed āgetting healthyā or āgetting into shapeā my mentally was really similar for many years. I might know where I wanted to be, but frustration about where my body was at the momentĀ would get in the way and cause me to give up.Ā
It took me a long time to realize that trying to reach your goals from a place of "not good enough now"Ā often leads to burnout. I learned that finding something to celebrate and appreciate about right now, to show ourselves radical acceptance, is a brave form of true confidence.Ā Ā When I showed myself loving acceptanceĀ not for what I would be but for who I was, I was better able to maintain healthy habits and actually find joy in the process.
Next week, I get to practice this beautiful acceptance in a very real way!
Iām excited to be sharing āthe stageā for a special joint class with my fellow instructor, TamĆ”s from Hungary on 6/20!Ā
When youĀ dance next to someone younger, older, stronger, more or less experienced in class, it is so easy to fall into comparison. But all of us, instructors and students alike, have our own unique styles and skills to bring to the dancefloor! In fact, this variety is what makes the group classes and collaborative events so very special!Ā Ā
In what waysĀ can you show acceptance about where you are today? How can finding a place of peace with your current reality bring you the confidence you need to build on your goals?
Come show yourself some love on the dance floor during this rainy week or reach out to register and join TamÔs and me for our party class for even more fun!
Keep moving!
xx,
Katie
