Creating More Space
Updated: Apr 26
How do you clear the clutter out from your life?
In the past two weeks I have been doing a big deep clean of my apartment as I got ready to have a roommate again. I often looked around and thought, “When did I accumulate so much unnecessary stuff?”Trying to find the time to go through all the closets and drawers I wondered, “How did my schedule get so full?” Even my computer and phone, full to the brim of huge prerecorded class files, have been giving me constant reminders that I need to clear space.
I love a full life. I’ve been fortunate enough to have more than enough work, tons of people I care about, countless students, plenty of activities, and more possessions and comforts than are necessary. But there is definitely a fine line between a full life and one that starts to feel cluttered, and clearly more, more , more of everything does not equal true fulfillment.
With each bag of stuff I sorted through and got rid of , each invitation I was able to politely decline, file I started to delete from my computer, or nagging thought that I let go of, I started to feel the unmistakable lightness of space. It’s the same feeling I get when my mind clears during a dance class, troubles and stresses forgotten; space is created to enjoy being in the present. Less starts to feel like more.
No doubt life has messy moments and clutter makes its way back into the corners of our lives and homes over time. If we understand when and how to clear some space for ourselves, we can better keep calm in the chaos of it all.
How do you create space for yourself? Would love to hear from you!
