and the Anchors that See Us Through

How are things shaking up for you this August? My summer staycation in Taipei has been eventful, even though I have mostly been staying close to home. And speaking of home, my daily scenery recently got a major update!

One of the highlights of the summer was having my kitchen redone. I’m talking the entire thing completely gutted. You would not believe the decades of grease and grime that were revealed behind the scenes 😲! Who knew everything that had been hiding beneath the surface?

In just a few days, the transformation was amazing. I now have modern, clean, high counters and cabinets, which are an absolute dream for a tall girl like me who loves to bake and spend time in the kitchen. In just a short time, it’s like I can’t even remember what the old space looked like.

The whole process reminded me of how change happens within each one of us. It can often be messy and chaotic. It can reveal lots of gritty bits we didn’t even know were there. Seeing some of that grime can feel demoralizing, and we often want to just give up.

Think about trying to adopt new healthy habits or letting go of routines we have clung to for years. Ingrained patterns, uncomfortable feelings, and the desire for immediate results all tend to bubble up, potentially throwing our internal renovation off course.

That’s where having a strong foundation to return to comes in. Grounding ourselves in the things that make us feel steady time and time again, whether it is the support of a loved one or a small act of self-care, gives us the patience to move through the mess of transition and make it to the bright, shiny other side.

As I share with you so very often, movement and dance are the anchors that keep my foundation intact. When life or even my physical space feels like it is in upheaval, and when I think I couldn’t possibly take time for myself, that is exactly when I need it most.

Plenty of times it’s not even because I feel motivated to go to class. It’s because I have built it into my schedule. Having predetermined bookings and commitments provides the structure I need. I don’t have to decide if I should gift myself the time. The routine automatically ensures I will get my dose of joy, expression, and calm. These moments turn into the bright spots that light the way through stress and chaos.

If you are going through a shaky time of change or transition, whether you are renovating your body, your mind, or even your house, what tools are you going to use to get you through to the shine on the other side?

Come anchor yourself and shake off the stress with me this week! Check out the schedule below to join a class in Taipei or move with me online from anywhere in the world.

Keep moving!

xx,

Katie
