How Dance Floor Magic Steps Out Into EveryDay Life!

Let’s see those confidence muscles! 💪🤩

All month we’ve been talking about building confidence – from getting comfy with our moves, to showing some love for who we see staring back in the mirror.

This week, let's zoom out: How does that dance floor magic actually spill over into our daily lives?

To me, it's all about having a playground to practice confidence – a safe, fun, welcoming environment where you can actively exercise and strengthen your “confidence muscles.”

What are these confidence muscles we are pumping up in class that can transfer to the real world?

For me, firstly, I learned to trust myself by simply showing up. Honestly, I used to think putting everyone else first was the noblest thing you could do. But making time for my health and self-care, initially by going to classes (even on those days when I didn't want to!) and later taking on more healthful habits, it was like keeping little promises to myself over and over again. That builds serious self-trust, showing me I will listen to my own needs and that I believe in myself (self-efficacy for the win!).

Then there's self-expression. In class we connect to emotion through the music. Playing with being more outgoing, fiercer, or even goofier in class – it surprisingly helped me feel braver outside the studio too! I became more okay with being vulnerable and truly expressing myself in front of others.

Quieting comparisons in favor of collaboration has also been key. Community is really at the heart of Zumba. Seeing all you amazing people from different walks of life as teammates, not competitors, has been a game-changer. It taught me the real value in our differences and similarities, reminding me that absolutely no one is perfect.

Finally, it's about taking on challengesWhen I first started teaching, getting through a class was a monumental effort! But pushing my limits in class, listening to my body, and realizing I could do more than I ever imagined gave me the courage to tackle bigger things outside of it – like making dance fitness my full-time gig or saying yes to scary, exciting events.

Needless to say, I could never have imagined the ripple effects that stepping onto the dance floor would have in so many aspects of my life – from my relationship with myself to how I move through the world!

What changes have you felt in your confidence thanks to class? I'd absolutely love to hear your stories in our private Facebook Group KMoves Studio!

Oh, and don't forget our special class this Saturday at 11 AM at Flow for a Retro-themed party! Dig out your favorite '80s colorful workout gear, '90s hip-hop backward hat, 2000s belly shirts, or whatever makes you feel like celebrating!

Let's dance and keep that confidence soaring together!

Keep moving!

xx,

Katie
