Luxurious Presence is My Vacation Vibe

If you were in Taiwan last week, you know we had two “typhoon days” off in an abundance of caution for Typhoon Bavi. In the end, we were lucky with the relatively mild impact it brought to the island.
Looking out the windows all weekend and noticing the bare, even occasionally sunny streets outside gave me an eerie and familiar feeling. For some reason, it brought me back to those days of COVID when things looked relatively normal outside, but the absence of people was anything but.
I got hit with this mini twinge of the memory of isolation and disconnect. Rather than appreciation for having two days inside resting on the couch, I felt incredibly restless.
Truthfully, with so many people heading off on holidays all month, I’d been noticing a craving for more connection over the past few weeks.
I don’t know about you, but during the school year I am often so burnt out from seeing so many people during the days and having such a full schedule that I can’t wait to go home and balance out my energy with some silence. I realize for a lot of people, this is exactly the kind of needed holiday they want to go for over the summer!
But over the past two weeks, I noticed that calm connection is the exact kind of vacation vibe I am going for while I stick around in the city.
With fewer people around and a slower work schedule, I made an effort to prioritize things that usually fall by the wayside. Less rushing between tightly scheduled classes meant sticking around a little longer after classes to catch up and really listen to students. Trips to and from my apartment took a little longer when I spent an extra ten minutes here and there to chat with the sweetest older woman who lives below me and is happy to let me practice my Chinese conversation skills. I also finally had the time and space to send a message or call old friends I hadn’t talked to in forever.
Small little moments like these felt rich, luxurious, and deeply fulfilling.
So often I think of holidays as a time to completely disconnect, but little moments of calm connection actually gave me the energized, light, and appreciative vacation vibe I am after this year.
What kinds of connection feel right for you this summer? Are you craving big reunions with family, a shared shaved ice with a friend, or simple solitude to connect to yourself?
Don’t forget, the dance floor is one of my absolute favorite places to connect with you and others! And right now is one of the best times to share that space with our Summer Squad Bring a Friend for free promotion.
Grab a friend, share some joyful movement, and enjoy a slow, unrushed catch up after class!
Keep moving!
xx,
Katie
