Finding Vacation Vibes without Leaving Home

Welcome to July!

Last night, as I was heading to Zumba class under a gorgeous fiery orange sunset, I noticed a certain buzz on the streets. It was the final day of school for the many students making their ways home and for quite a few of my teacher friends as well.

Truthfully, I got hit with a little wave of FOMO.

All I could think of was all the things on my plate this summer, a big exam to prepare for and plenty of my regularly scheduled classes.  What kind of easy breezy summer feeling can I realistically find amidst my normal commute, sitting in front of a textbook, or staying within the walls of my own apartment?

Well, I had already selected our July theme as Vacation Vibes, which (as usually happens) feels like a challenge and a reminder that I need to give to myself!

So this month, I want to explore: How can a vacation not be a destination, but rather a state of mind or a captured feeling?

I guess a good place to start is to think about what that looks like for each one of us.

For me, a holiday feels like freedom, restoration, savoring simple experiences, playful energy, and just a lightness of being. I don’t know about you, but I am always amazed by the way I think I will sleep in all day when I am on holiday, yet I somehow wake up earlier than expected! I spring out of bed with an enthusiasm to soak up every single second of a slow coffee, a juicy piece of fruit, or the sound of birds chirping.

I have the energy to move my body in ways that don’t feel like a chore, but rather like an adventure or an act of appreciation. I somehow feel calmly exhausted by the end of the day and am content to drift off to sleep rather than torture myself by staying awake and endlessly scrolling.

Within my idyllic dream holidays, there are clues as to how I can create my own vacation vibe even during a summer of staying put.

Those clues become like a menu of choices. Putting down my phone, enjoying a bite of something fresh, or noticing the nature around me are all purposeful actions that can give me a mini dose of a mental or emotional getaway.

Truthfully, even if you are traveling or busy with exciting summer plans, knowing what feeling you want your summer holiday to have and what five minute escapes into it you can give yourself may be incredibly helpful!

So this summer, what vacation vibe are you going for, and what is one way you will gift it to yourself?

If you want to dance to the heat of Latin beats and travel to other countries with world rhythms, you know where you can find me. I will be right here on the dance floor!

Keep moving!

xx,

Katie
