Mid-Year Musings

Updated: Feb 25, 2019

My nearly forgotten 2018 vision board!

What do you have envisioned for the rest of your year?

This past week as I was doing a bit of cleaning, I knocked over my desk bulletin board, and everything on it came crashing down. I spent a good while sitting on the floor surrounded by tacks staring at the biggest, most obvious, and perhaps most ignored item on it—my 2018 vision board!

During the first week of 2018, a few girlfriends and I had gathered together with poster board, old magazines, scissors, glue, and red wine to create our vision or dream boards. It was basically a crafting session involving cutting and pasting words, pictures, and quotes which represented the things we hoped to accomplish during the year. Some of mine were quite simple goals, like keeping a plant alive this year (still haven’t gotten there!), while others were more long term aims like the cartoon piggybank to remind me of my plans to save more, and words such as “Go Deep” to represent how I hope to make deeper connections with the people in my life.

I found the exercise of putting together the vision board a lot of fun and useful in clearly mapping out what I hoped to achieve, but like many New Years resolutions, the enthusiasm and clarity of my vision dimmed as the year progressed. Life got busy, and new projects came up and took the place of other things I thought I would have ticked off my yearly to-do list by now.

Knocking the board down this past week was especially interesting timing, seeing as we have officially made it halfway through 2018. It’s hard to believe the time has passed so quickly and that it'll be 2019 before we know it! When I look at the board now, it can be tempting to focus on all the things I haven’t yet gotten around to this year. However, it’s a great occasion to look at what I have been spending my time and energy on so far, and reevaluate the importance and plans of action for the things I still hope to do.

At this halfway marker, there is still enough time to get to work making this the kind of year we have envisioned for ourselves! We have another six full months left in 2018. What else can you dream up for yourself to accomplish in that time?

Keep moving! xx, Katie

Katie
